I'm becoming increasingly intolerant of bad fanfic. Hell, I'm becoming intolerant of mediocre fanfic, and that's a serious problem.

Maybe it's the constraints on my time or something, but lately a fic gets one hundred words to impress me before I hit the back button, and I've got new authors on a one-strike-you're-out policy. Hell, I quit reading some NC-17-rated fic on OPY simply because the author aggravated me with her abuse of the "in media res" technique and her stilted grammar in the first paragraph, and I've been whining for porn lately. She posted something else, and even the promise of a thousand-plus words of porn was not enough to summon any desire to read it.

Man, I used to read everything that got posted on OPY and OPY100, shitty or not, just in case. What happened to my tolerance levels? T_T

In other news, I had a retarded idea for a series of non-Metalverse ZoSan drabbles (WTF is up with the ZoSan and me lately?). Fortunately for any respect people might have for me as a writer, it's so long and complicated that it will likely never get finished. :B

I think that happens to almost everyone as they get older. I know I used to love some fics but now I look back and can't get past the first few chapters.

I hope you do write it, for the very self-centered reason that you're one of the five fanfic authors I still read these days :P I think I've come down with the same affliction you have; can't seem to read even half-decent fics these days. Bar drabbles, because 300 words don't take up too much time or hurt too badly when only so-so.

Ah I'm picky too...but more about how in character the characters are...but I'm more picky about my own art than others generally...(This is why I don't draw frustrated I beat up the paper..)..Ah kinda went off topic (sorry)

Snaps for that. I was on a major Aya/Yohji kick yesterday, and I couldn't get through a fic that promised both angst and an ok plotline because of the run-on paragraphs and slightly-ooc dialogue.

I'm highly critical when I read too, you're certainly not alone in disregarding fics you come across. I have a strike-policy that I follow as well: Something like spelling errors or a shift in tense or grammar abuse I am turned off. I can't shut off being an English teacher so the minute I see errors I no longer become a reader, I become a teacher and it takes all the fun out of reading for pleasure.

In regards to your fic ideas, I would love to see you finish them. Your writing is amazing and you are one of the authors I load up these OP communities hoping to see.

Man I know how you feel about the fanfic thing. :/ I've been looking for goodfic in a new fandom (new for me, anyway) lately, and the more badfic or mehfic I find, the less tolerant I become of the others I've got lined up to check out. What I hate the most is fics that start out okay for the first few chapters, and I'm actually enjoying them somewhat... then the bottom just drops out of 'em as they DEGENERATE all at once. So disappointing GOD.

...And uh, before that little tirade of mine came out, I wanted to ask you this: What's the "in media res" technique?

It has a Wiki!: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_medias_res

...If this does, it makes me wonder what the hell doesn't have a Wiki, really?

"In media res" is Latin for "in the middle of things." It's when you drop a reader directly into the middle of events and they learn about the characters, the plot, and how the events at the beginning of the story came to be as things are happening. It creates a very dynamic piece of fiction when done well, and fanfic makes things easier (no detailed character introduction needed!), but abusing it or doing it poorly makes the reader scroll up and wonder if there's a prior, more interesting paragraph that they missed.

Oh! I've had fragmented plotbunnies like that. They usually end up as unfinished drabbles, or longer deals. Usually inspired from wanting to write an action-y scene based on one little tiny thing. Thanks for the info. :D

I had no idea what it was, let alone what category it fell into. XD; Thanks for showing me. *proceeds to read up on other literary concepts*

Right back atcha. >>; I desire Mal-fic, but I know the Spawnlet (and the Spawnlet's older relations) does not comprehend that there are CP9 agents who badly need to be slashed. Unless...

A is for Assassin, cunning and cruel,
B is for Blueno, who kicks like a mule.
C is for CP9, secret killer spies,
and D is for Deception, a big word for lies.

*is shot for doggerel and corrupting the youth*

The main issue with my retarded idea is that I'm looking at a series of somewhere between twenty-five and thirty drabbles which I would prefer not to post until it's complete. X_x It'll probably take me a month to write, if I finish it at all.

Okay, you've ruined me for ordinary alphabet rhymes now, so you know :P

A month to write it? I've been working on one of my in-progress fics for six months, and the other for even longer, though there was a lengthy break in the middle ^^;
