Arial CYR;I got my new moped in the mail earlier this week. It came in a massive metal cage, which I wound up hacksawing apart. Actually, I didn't wind up doing so, though I was quite willing to--I borrowed a hacksaw from my friend Steve, so when he came over and I started attacking the cage, he did the obligatory manly-man thing and insisted on the sawing it apart himself and wrestling my bike out of it with his mighty man muscles.

I still got to hone my Etherite mechanical skills on the moped--I had to put a goodly number of the bits on myself, including the front wheel (which included the brakes and the speedometer cable). The front wheel was a right bitch. It would not fit on properly at all--there was always a difference of a millimeter or so that was keeping me from getting the axle in. The brakes bit me several times. I wound up calling the guys at VICI and asking them how to do it. Naturally, there was a simple, stupid trick to getting it on, and once I found it out, it took me a grand total of thirty seconds to get the wheel on. All that's left is for me to fill the battery (an entirely new experience for myself) and the oil and to install some minor cosmetic fripperies.

The manual wasn't much help--it's in some of the most atrocious Engrish I've ever read. Example: "Should please you maintain the vehicle usually in order to assure to safely drive." I think they're saying to do regular maintainance on the bike to keep it operating safely. The directions are so bad that I'm not sure how to put the oil in. I'm hoping it's fairly self-explanatory. ^.^;

I'm still waiting for my helmet to arrive. It didn't ship until the 3rd, so I am helmetless until Monday at the earliest. This sucks, because it's much with the illegal to drive without a helmet, and I have errands that need to get run. Nyu. ^.^;

There was a bit of unhappy excitement on Friday. My roommate collapsed in the parking lot, and I had to call an ambulance. The really sucky thing was that after we got to the hospital, no one would see her. She waited there in the emergency room with me, Steve, and eventually her mother for six hours, and still didn't get seen by a doctor. At 3 am, she gave up, said she was feeling a lot better (which she was) and went home without finding out why she collapsed. It sucked, but not as bad as the people who, by the time we left, had been waiting for eleven hours. Grrrr. >.< Fortunately, she's been feeling okay since.
