kiki_kun, JohnnYosaku in drabble format. Please, for the love of Oda, TELL ME if this is out of character. I've never written dorky bounty hunters before, and I would like to get it right. ^.^;
Title: Stupid
Series: One Piece.
One Piece: Not mine.
Summary: Yosaku thinks a bit about things.
Some days, Yosaku wondered what the hell he was doing with his life. Wandering around East Blue picking fights, bounty-hunting to keep themselves fed—it definitely wasn’t the most intelligent thing to be doing. Not really very practical, either—one large bounty could keep them comfortable for a long while, but they had to find and take down the bounty first, and the big-money heads were some scary fuckers. Devil Fruit people, fishmen—the universe was not kind, putting these kinds of things where people who liked breathing could come across them. He had a good sword, but a sword did nothing against someone with scales like iron or a body that could turn to flame. It was just unfair.
Admittedly, he did like traveling and fighting, but some days—especially days when he was handing a doctor money to stitch part of his body back together—it really seemed like he ought to pick somewhere and settle down. Some days his life felt well and truly purposeless, like he was drifting along on a sea of random events without a rudder or a sail.
Then Johnny would get That Look on his face. The one where the jaw muscles under his tattoo went tense and his sunglasses looked more intense and opaque than usual. The one that said he was going to do something stupidly honorable and brave and go charging into battle with little regard for his health or safety. Johnny would get That Look, and Yosaku would remember. Tagging along, protecting Johnny’s back, chasing Johnny’s dream, even when it wasn’t practical, realistic, sane, or healthy…
He supposed it was love, because he didn’t know anything else that made a person act that stupid.
