Jeebus, it's cold. Where the hell was this weather when we were actually expecting it, before my midwinter doldrums wore off? *sulk* I want to go outside and run around like a moron, but I can't, because my fingers and toes and ears will hurt and go numb and fall off and then I can't type anymoooooore...well, not really, but I'll wish they had. My jackets (one sweatshirt, threadbare with holes, and one trenchcoat, torn) aren't really up to dealing with temperatures in the teens. I have The Hat and a warm scarf, but they only do so much. Dammit. [/petulant mememe whining]

Title: Everything
Series: One Piece.
One Piece: Not mine.
Summary: Luffy/Sanji (holy crap, where did that come from?). Sanji thinks about what he wants.

What do you want?

It was the most fundamental question, and the one that Luffy had asked all of them at that critical moment when they were wavering over their fates as part of his crew. A selfish question, to be answered honestly and responded to selflessly.

What do you want?

The answers varied. For some, an achievement, a fight to be won, a concrete goal to be reached. For others, a place or a thing or something else physical and tangible and real. For one member of the crew, the only real answer was “nakama,” which was a bit of both. For another, the goal was not outside himself, but within as he struggled to live up to the promise he felt in his father’s blood.

What do you want?

It was so easy for Sanji to point and say, “This. This is what I want.” All Blue was a place, a solid thing to say he desired, and he did want it with all of his heart and soul. A chef’s paradise, a miraculous place, a promise made and kept all in the same deep blue waters. A lofty, noble goal, and one well worth pursuing.

What do you want?

But sometimes Luffy would ask him that question with a certain emphasis, a tiny little bit of extra stress and an ever-so-slightly different grin under the wide brim of a straw hat that put a more immediate and personal spin on the question. And for one moment, looking into a pair of black eyes as deep as the nighttime sea, the word “everything” trembled on Sanji’s lips.

He quickly washed it away by asking for Nami-san’s love or some peace and quiet or something equally silly and casual. But the “everything” had been there in his mouth, and it flavored the flippant wishes that he tossed out to answer Luffy’s eternal question. Luffy would smile that slow hungry smile, and Sanji would know that he’d tasted the “everything” under all the other words anyway.

One day, Sanji feared, Luffy was not going to wait for the “everything” to try to leave his lips before he devoured it.
