chibi_trillian: (Sanji/Usopp sweetness)

Just barely managed to get this finished while it was still March second. Chibi had a busy day and slept badly last night, and now her brains are quite gone. This is the result.

Title: Delayed Reaction
Series: One Piece.
One Piece: Not mine.
Rating: G. This is probably the most inoffensive thing I've ever written. Ironically, it's also the sixty-ninth One Piece fic I've written.
Summary: SanUso fluff with light nakamaship vibes. That's about it.

“I like you a lot, Sanji.”

How did one react when one of one’s nakama said that while sitting at the galley table and grinning a Cheshire grin?

Now, if the person saying that had been Nami-san or Robin-chan, Sanji would have known exactly how to react. Melting into a puddle of love on the floor and proceeding to worship the lovely lady in question for offering him some of her precious esteem, that’s what he would have done.

If it had been Chopper, Sanji would have known just what to do. A “thank you” and a hug and a cup of cocoa for the cute little fuzzball, and spending some time sitting with him and talking to him. Chopper sometimes needed a bit more friendly affection and reassurance than the rest of the crew, and that’s what Sanji would have given him.

If it had been Luffy, Sanji wouldn’t have hesitated a second in his response. A snort and a thrown cookie and bracing himself for a Gomu Gomu no Glomp. Luffy was Luffy, irrepressible and himself. Sanji knew better than to raise issue with that.

If it had been Zoro, Sanji would have reacted on pure instinct. He’d have kicked the marimo-head into unconsciousness, because he was clearly either possessed, ill, or a Mane Mane clone. One couldn’t take chances with such things, and Sanji would have wasted no time in dragging him off to Chopper.

But it had been Usopp. He’d caught Sanji utterly flat-footed, and he was still smiling and waiting for some kind of reply.

For now, Sanji settled for sighing and throwing an apple at his head. Usopp caught it, and Sanji went back to cooking dinner. When he turned around again, Usopp was gone, but an apple peel was on the table, curled into a perfect spiral.

Later, after dinner had been served, Sanji mentioned casually that fried, honeyed apple peels had been a popular treat on his home island, so he’d be fixing some for dessert. Luffy’s excited bouncing, Chopper’s questions, and Zoro’s noisy avowal that he wouldn’t be caught dead eating something from a place that spawned people like the Love Cook almost managed to drown out Usopp’s quiet chuckle. Almost.

And if Usopp had noticed that his dessert plate had a heart neatly painted in honey in the center of it, he wasn’t saying anything.

A bit like apple chips with honey, as I vaguely recall. I swear I've had it once, but I can't remember when or where. I'm going senile.

I'm so going to go along with saying "Aww....." as well. Very cute indeed.

....Honeyed apple peals? .....*long pause* .....You wouldn't happen to know how to make those exactly, would you? *shifty eyes* I think I'll have to look into that. And perhaps make them sometime now. *nod nod*

Every now and then, my brain just dribbles out sugar. I can't explain it.

As for the recipe, I've got nary a clue. Cooking is not my forte to start with, and you're making me go digging into my marvelous rednecky childhood here. As I vaguely recall, they were a farmer's treat--not the kind of thing one sees in a cookbook, and I know my mother wasn't the one cooking them. All I can remember is that cinnamon was involved somewhere in the process, because I remember tasting it. Arg, now I want some.

Hnn... *thoughtful look* I'll have to experiment with that tomorrow... Because tomorrow is one of the days I have off of school work (*holy light surrounds her*). Cinnamon hmm?

...It's sad how excited this has gotten me... =._.=;

If all else fails, it'll probably smell good. Good luck!
