Title: Solitary
Series: One Piece.
One Piece: Not mine.
Word Count: 300.
Rating: PG.
Pairing/Character: Mihawk.
Drabble Franky 9000 Component: 4/30.
Sometimes, Mihawk wanted to give it all up. The solitary existence, the pointless traveling. Putting up with the World Government’s nonsense and corruption, meeting with old men so foul inside that he felt tainted from speaking to them. And especially the constant, pathetic challenges by swordsmen of such low level and such tiny potential that killing them was a mercy, that they might never fully realize how badly they were outclassed.
Sometimes, he wanted to throw it all away, take what was left of his honor and retire to an island somewhere in South Blue with warm rain and tall mountains and the thick spicy scent of olive trees perfuming the air. But he knew that Shichibukai reach retirement in one of two boxes—a stone one with bars or a pine one with nails.
So he floated on an ocean of ennui, sailing semi-aimlessly, killing pirates who particularly annoyed him and letting the rest live so they could, in turn, annoy the World Government.
And then one day, idly pursuing a particularly uppity man who thought that numbers and dishonorable tactics meant he was fit to be king of the pirates, he was challenged.
The boy trembled with excitement instead of fear, and his soul was incandescent with his determination. And as they fought, Mihawk felt his heart stirring for the first time in ages.
At last, the boy, outmatched and knowing it, had turned, opened himself, spread his arms wide that he might take his deathblow like a man.
Mihawk, in turn, had challenged him. Flicked out his black blade and marked that magnificent child, shoulder to hip, so that Death himself would know who had claim on this boy’s soul, blade severing the useless past and leaving a line marking the beginning of both of their futures.

Date: 2006-08-20 10:31 pm (UTC)*smashes in the face of your LJ-cut*Zoro's soul is such a sparkly and inspiring thing that every damn person ever falls in love with it. ;____; Especially Mihawk. I bet he snuggles up in his little one-man bunkroom below his coffinboat and writes all day about
things he's going to do toZoro. And his goddamn soul. And your writing is as seamlessly smooth as always, rarrrgh.(no subject)

Date: 2006-08-20 11:37 pm (UTC)LJ-cut: *BLEEDS*"Dear Journal:
Thought about young Roronoa today. Was reminded of him by a mossy rock, and couldn't resist the urge to run my fingers across the thick verdancy, wishing it was his hair. Really hope he hurries up and gets stronger soon. Wonder if he's gotten any new scars. Am very much a fan of the ones encircling his ankles--they almost look deliberate in their evenness. His latest bounty poster makes him look very menacing, though I would have gone for a different filter on the camera, one that brings out the green of his hair and eyes a bit more. Have put it up on my wall anyway..."
The next twenty-seven pages are much the same. OLE. XD

I love how well you illustrated that their meeting had just as large of an impact on Mihawk as it had on Zoro. Marvelous. ^_^
