Title: Love Story
Series: One Piece.
One Piece: Not mine.
Rating: PG.
Summary: Usopp/Kaya, slight, nebulous Sanji ~~> Usopp. Sanji tries too hard; that's his problem, really.

All his life, Sanji has wanted a love story of his very own.

Usopp has stories and stories and a thousand stories, but his love story is private and sweet, sealed with a secret and a kiss. The one story Usopp will not share is the one Sanji most wants to hear whispered in his ear.

In the beginning, he sticks close to Usopp, hoping to catch his secret, to spot the subtle differences that bring the butterfly of love fluttering to one man’s fingertips while leaving another with empty hands ever cupped in hope. But watching proves futile—he’s never seen him with her, never seen the beginning of this love story, only the middle. The butterfly dances just beyond his frantically grabbing hands, fluttering out of reach with every platonic smile Nami-san gives him.

Months and women and chances slip by, and Sanji struggles to write the first words of his own love story even as Usopp writes his own out on cream-colored paper and mails it away to her, page by page. And sheets of parchment come back, pale and numerous as butterfly scales, and all of them covered with delicate, feminine handwriting that Sanji aches to see curling around the syllables of his own name. A love letter. A love story. Usopp has the secret, knows the words, and Sanji wants to know them too.

He wonders, in his more desperate moments, if he breaks this love story, if he rips open the cocoon of fancy and fidelity that surrounds the younger man, will he see that magical moment? The tiny second of transition between friend and lover that he somehow always misses?

Usopp is warm and drunk and pliant in his arms. The chrysalis has the most delicate shell under the layers of careful protection Usopp usually weaves around his love. He could break it wide open. He wouldn’t even have to do anything—he’d just have to say something happened.

He could finally hold love in his hands, even if it’s just the broken pieces of another man’s heart. An instant, a flip of the page, and Usopp’s story is over and Sanji’s has begun.

He kisses the sniper chastely on the forehead, light as a butterfly’s feet finally touching down, and puts him to bed. The villain never gets the girl in love stories, after all.

Butterfly metaphors/similes = win.
God this was gorgeous and heartbreaking and I actually FEEL for Sanji, which is weird. Beautiful writing, just very very lovely use of words.

For some reason, I get this picture of watery-eyed Sanji just going "...no hug?" And it makes me laugh, because I am a cold-hearted bitch XD

But truly, this is so bittersweet and sad and awwwww Sanji, if only you were real, you'd realize how many of us love your dumb ass. The last line kills, it's just so wistful. I love your choice of words, especially the butterfly metaphor and especially especially this part:

;_; Memoried like a memoried thing.

Aww, Sanji! Cheer up, emo kid!

It seems like he's kinda OOC though, and that bothers me. I try to put these thoughts into Sanji's head, and it doesn't really fit to me. I guess I haven't read enough one peice yet.

The metaphors are lovely and heartbreaking. Or maybe that's Sanji. Particularly that moment hovering around the chrysalis...and the longing, so strong it goes even as far as nearly touching the pain of a friend just to feel something. But don't worry, Sanji; we've all had those moments of wanting something so strongly we'd get it at the expense of others. Villains are the ones who didn't say no.
