No Smokes for You, Come Back Five Years: Japan phasing in age-verification systems for cigarette vending machines.
To buy cigarettes from vending machines in the future, smokers will have to flash a smart card against an electronic reader to prove they are above the legal age of 20.
SANJI! You illict underage smoker, younot that you've been smoking since you were ten or anything. Why do I have the mental image of him kicking open a cigarette machine to get his smokes?
Only in Japan. In America, the cigarette companies would not only NOT be paying for this, but they'd be fighting it in court with concerns about violations of people's privacy, never mind that they send people out to bars to buy personal information from smokers in exchange for a free lighter and a pack of cigarettes. :/
In other news, OH SHIT. Usopp's birthday is Sunday and I have written NOTHING. I fail as an Usopp fangirl. ;_;
