Anyone who's ever had their wisdom teeth out have any recommendations on anesthesia? My oral surgeon is snakey and creepy so I'm kind of leery about general anesthesia. D: Besides, if I go for local I can drive myself home.

In other news, as a Star Trek nerd, I've been sorta-following the news about the new Trek movie. The dude who played Eomer in Lord of the Rings is the new Leonard McCoy. Bones was always one of my favorite characters, and some part of me is hoping against hope that he'll do the part justice.

In other other news, Comcast is in ur computer, fuxx0ring ur torrents. Bullshit like this is why I support Net Neutrality legislation as strongly as I do.

Whether you can do local anesthetic or have to go with general depends on how rooted your wisdom teeth are. I had mine out at 17, before they grew roots, so I got to use the local but even then they had me on painkillers that made it impossible for me to drive or even walk around my house (only time I've ever fainted). I was fine 2 days later though. Make sure to ask for the laughing gas, its a lot of fun ^_^

I turn 24 on the 30th. O_o My wisdom teeth have been working on coming in since I was 18. I have no idea how rooted they are, since they seem to be sped-teeth. The oral surgeon was REALLY pushing general (to the point that he told the receptionist I'd decided on it even though I'd done no such thing), but I got the definite feeling that it's just because he gets to charge an extra $475 for it. >P

I just went for local, it was actually pretty neat hearing all the neat sounds coming out of my mouth :D. If your teeth only need to be pulled out and you're not squeamish about stuff like this then I don't see much point in general anesthesia.

You're a far braver woman than I - I need to get my wisdom teeth out for like 5 years now, and I keep chickening out. When I get them done, though, I want to be 100% unconscious so I can't see any teeth being ripped from my mouth. The surgeon can molest me all he/she wants to as long as I don't have to see my own blood and guts.

Make sure you wait until after Y-con, though. It may cut down on your drinking fun.

XD Don't worry. Right now, it's scheduled for November 1 (my boss is going to ADORE that--come back from vacation for two days and then I'm out again for the rest of the week).

General all of the way. I got mine out at 18 and they were all impacted (to the point of having to be broken). The lost time spent unconscious was an awesome experience in and of itself, but it's especially nice not having to smell burning teeth or hear the awful sounds of things going wrong in your mouth. (Unless you're into that kind of thing, I guess.)

I'd recommend even if you go for local to have a backup on hand to drive you home in case you're not up to it. Everyone I've known that's had it done under local didn't feel up to driving home afterwards, and it's nice to have that in place ahead of time so that you don't panic when the time comes. At worst, take a cab - better to spend the money on a cab and get your car later than to risk an accident.

Comcast - god, I hate those bastards. And yet they wonder why I stick with my local DSL provider? (Nevermind the faster speeds guaranteed available and the lack of weekly net outtages that I suffered from Comcast on a weekly basis in CA. Bunch of slippery shits.)

It seems like the experience varies a lot >_>, but when I had my wisdom teeth removed, I wasn't even offered anything but local anesthesia, and there were no problems with it. Althought I guess since my wisdom teeth hadn't even come out (at 20), the roots probably weren't big...
And the surgeon seemed very nice and reliable...a dentist I can't trust would be horrible. D:

Oh oh laughing gas isn't bad. That and if they let you having like headphones with music helps. Just don't sneeze and fall asleep in your own blood afterwards while your dad ran in to grap medications. You will freak your people out if you do that.

I'm going to vote local as most insurance won't cover general unless there's a need for it and while y'all seem more comfortable with money in the new appartment, you're coming off a con and right into holiday/birthday season, where the money gets tight, even when you have everyone you know saying "no, really, I don't want you to get me anything" (which incidentally has gotten me to pondering creating a list of >$5 gifts that I can respond with to inquiries 'bout what I want) but, I digress (babble), Local didn't work out badly for me, though a ride is advisable (hell, if you need one I'll drive you) and I've had a bad experience with general in the past.....(as I was told MUCH later, I apparently had quite a bit of difficulty coming back from the anesthesia when I had my eye teeth removed....all I remember was I got the shot in my arm and woke up about 5 or 6 hours later, paler than I think I've ever been and REALLY weak). . . though, if you're feeling sketchy about your oral surgeon, why haven't you made inquiries into finding a new one?
