Books!

Ug. I spent too much money on manga yesterday. Waldenbooks was having a "Buy 2, get 1 free" sale on manga, and I saw Yami no Matsuei #4 and I had to have it with the burning passion of a thousand fiery hells. So while I was buying that, I figured that I might as well go for the full deal and get a free manga. Free is good. [livejournal.com profile] plotbunny_tiff saw Fruits Basket #8 and her reaction was similar to mine, except for her utter lack of money on her part. So I went, "I'll get that for you, and then I'll pick up another one, and I'll have three."

Picking that third manga was the most heart-wrenching decision I've made in a while, for it was Monday, the day after shipment day, and lo, there was yaoi that had not yet been gobbled up by fangirls. There was Level C (thank you, Kitty, for undercutting the other yaoi manga companies and pricing your yaoi at the same price as a normal manga), and Passion #2, and Selfish Love #2, and a bunch of other stuff, plus this one random-ass manga that [livejournal.com profile] plotbunny_tiff put into my hands called "Dream Gold." I read about half of the last one in the store before getting you-read-it-you-buy-it-ed by a salesguy.

I wish I'd been able to finish it. It was a very random manga, and not my usual cup of tea, but I really want to know what happens to Kurorat.

I wound up buying Selfish Love #2. Mmmm, yaoi with plot. And then, after that agonizing decision, I started walking up to the counter and saw the bargain books rack. Damn if those bastards weren't having a sale on gardening books.

Chibi wants books on plants! Chibi wants books that will make her herb garden and balcony veggibles grow better than last year! Chibi wanteeeeee!

I pried my hands off an herbal companion and a guide to common plant diseases and pests and checked out. Snifflepout.

I wonder if Wonder Books has started carrying manga yet? Cheap manga is good. I don't care if it's used.

I need more bookshelves, lest I wind up like my ex-boyfriend and have books stacked higher than me on every available flat surface including the floor. My Star Trek books are already in stacks on the floor (+100 novels and counting, mostly TOS), and the tops of my bookshelves are covered in books too.

I'm starting to get behind on Mercedes Lackey books. I need the Black Gryphon trilogy, Oathblood, Fiddler Fair, the Owlknight trilogy, The Black Swan, Firebird, and Alta and Sanctuary (I have Joust). Has the last book in the Elemental Masters series come out while I wasn't paying attention? I hope not. And Vanyel-san needs to come back home from his long voyage with Val-chan. I miss him.

I'm currently reading Corpse, which is a fascinating book on the difficulty of pinpointing time of death in forensic cases, Demon Doctors, which is a book about physician-killers, and Spock's World. About all these three books have in common is science (and there's a "fiction" appended to it in the case of Spock's World).

Books are good for my soul. Fanfic is alright, but there's so much of it that's gawdawful horrible that you need to read something that has been gone over by an editor every now and then to realign the literature compass. Mmmmmbooks.
