I can finally write a somewhat coherent short report of the concert. It was incredible, and it really was coming full circle for me, as I got to hear the first two VNV Nation songs I ever heard, the ones that got me into the band (Honour and Kingdom), performed live. The arrived a bit late thanks to us getting lost three times (Mapquest always throws in that one wrong direction just to see if you're paying attention). I managed to lose the two guys I came with during the show, and I and they had different ideas of where would be a logical place to meet up. I went to the car because we all knew where that was, they stood at one of the doors and figured I'd eventually come out of it (I left through a different exit, unfortunately). They then called my cell phone, which was locked in the car. As they'd seen me get searched and knew I was only carrying cash and my driver's license, this was a bit of a sweatdrop moment. All turned out happily in the end, though, as they eventually thought to check the car.

1. Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
I don't know. Not a lot, though--I only tend to buy movies that really mean a lot to me, like Silence of the Lambs and Se7en (heh). Most of the time, I just wait and I eventually get the movie as a present.

2. The last film I bought:
I don't remember. It's been that long.

3. The last film I watched:
In a theater? Unleashed, actually. I watched it while my friends were seeing Hitchhiker's Guide for the second time, and wound up wishing that I'd gone with them instead.

4. Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
~Mystery Men: My all-time favorite movie. I love the premise, the costumes, the sets, the characters, and the dialogue. It always makes me happy, and I took the bit where Mr. Furious has a notebook with a fuzzy kitten on the front very much to heart--just because somebody looks a certain way, it to doesn't mean that they are that way.
~Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow: When I can afford it, I'm buying it. I am, at heart, a Son of Ether, and this movie delights my inner Etherite and my inner child.
~Se7en: This is the definition of a good modern film noir for me. I love this movie, and the acting is incredible. John Doe is my favorite movie serial killer.
~Steamboy: An hour and a half of beautifully animated philosophy on scientific ethics and the purpose of science. 'Nuff said.
~Silence of the Lambs: I love this movie. I'm not sure why, I just do. Hannibal Lecter is my favorite movie cannibal, and following very closely behind John Doe on the movie serial killers list.

5. Five people I'm passing this onto:
Any five who want it.

Your story about getting lost going to the concert brings back memories of the first time we actually got to see VNV Nation in concert in San Francisco. We must have spent half an hour driving around the city trying to find the club (City Nights), because the directions given on the website to the club were wrong. We ended up missing Informatik, which was the first opening band. Sadly, that's not the last time we've gotten incorrect directions to a club off of the club's site. We've learned to mapquest it before going at this point because none of us actually know our way around the city, bar Japantown or the way to the DNA Lounge. ^_^;;

Did you make it in time to see Imperative Reaction? If not, I *need* to spam you with some of their music. They kick serious ass. Soman wasn't anything too special (just a guy groovin' on stage with his laptop and mixing live), but Imperative Reaction is crazy.

Out of curiosity (if you don't mind sharing), how did you get into VNV Nation? Was it at a club night, through a friend, or just totally random? (I found them through a remix of Darkangel on a mix tape from the guy who DJ'ed our wedding reception. It was all downhill from there. ^_^)

I missed Imperative Reaction. By the time we got there, the house DJs were just playing random crap while they did light and sound checks for VNV Nation. I'm just happy we didn't get more lost.

How I got into VNV Nation: it all started off with Darkon. Darkon is a D&D-based live-action full-contact wargaming group. A friend, Artex, was big into VNV Nation and in the same country as I was. On a three-hour road trip to West Virgina for a campout, he said, "I'm thinking of starting a new country. Spack (another Darkonian) and I wrote its history and constitution to these two songs." He played Kingdom and Honour, and I got full-body tinglies and demanded more of such music. He gave me an mp3 CD with every VNV Nation album and single he knew of (he owns all of them), and I fell in love (with VNV nation, not with Artex. The latter would've made Artex quite happy, but I have a policy of not dating unmedicated bipolars). The country flopped due to Artex losing interest and abandoning it, but I'm still a VNV Nation fan.

It was actually a rather fun little meme. I found out how few movies I actually own versus have seen or am borrowing.

Yes, and I had it confirmed how much of a geek I am. 125+ wasn't including any anime series, at all.
Which is really, really scary.
But it was amusing, and it's summer, and I'm bored out of my everliving skull.
So.
Meme.
.....and 'memesmacked' is my new favorite word. Evahr.
