You remember that fandom milestone I told y'all about? This is it.

My one hundredth One Piece fanfic (or hundredth separate fiction entry, anyhow). That's with two zeroes. Good gods, I have no life.

Alice Cooper still writes the love songs what makes the ZoSan happen. Sorry I went off-topic, [livejournal.com profile] mettathron. Crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi.

Title: Love Should Never Feel Like This
Series: One Piece.
One Piece: Not mine.
Rating: PG.
Summary: Sequel to Poison. Sanji's got a problem with Zoro.

The shitty swordsman was a problem.

Actually, he was worse than a problem. He was irritation and an insult, a stone in Sanji’s shoe, a tiny nick in his favorite kitchen knife. An annoyance all the damn time, from the second he’d set foot on the Baratie onwards. He told his crewmates that he didn’t know why Zoro pissed him off so much, but deep down inside, he did.

It was because Zoro was stronger than he was.

Not physically—at least, Sanji thought not right now. The way Zoro trained, he might surpass Sanji someday soon. Not mentally—Sanji could outthink that idiot any day of the week. But in Zoro’s belief in his dream up to the point of being willing to die for it, he’d proven himself the better man. When the testing point had come, Zoro had held tight to his goal while Sanji had screamed that it was better to give up your dream than to die pursuing it.

Sanji desired that same strength for himself, craved it until he wanted to grab Zoro and somehow dig the trick of it out of that tanned skin and solid muscle. But at the same time, he hated Zoro for possessing it so effortlessly. The conflict made his stomach knot up unpleasantly and made his already volatile temper flare and shorten to near-nonexistence around the other man.

His first few weeks on the ship, Sanji had tried avoiding Zoro whenever possible. He’d had distractions aplenty in the form of stubborn longnoses to persuade and beautiful mikan-girls to flatter and bottomless-pit captains to feed, but eventually the need to know Zoro’s secret drew him to the swordsman like a moth to flame. Damn if the fucker didn’t keep scorching him, too. When Zoro snarled angrily at him and picked fights, he relished the chance to take out some of his vexation on the person who had caused it.

And then, during their clashes, steel meeting shoe and bodies moving in a near-deadly dance, he’d noticed something.

Sanji wanted Zoro’s strength.

Zoro just wanted Sanji.

It was an amazing revelation. He had power over the man he envied.

Power that the gentlemanly part of his nature refused to allow him to abuse. God dammit.

But still, Sanji couldn’t help seeing how far that desire would get him. Almost flirting, almost inviting, shading their combat with overtones and heated looks until Zoro’s face flushed red and he broke away. Sometimes Zoro would start to reach out, start to touch him, get so close that Sanji could taste it, taste that magnificent strength enveloping him…

And then Zoro would just shut it down. Pull away like Sanji wasn’t good enough for him.

Sanji had never been so frustrated in his entire life. It was like smelling a fantastic recipe he’d never seen before and having it yanked away before he could taste it. He was about ready to kill the idiot marimo-head in his sleep, but Luffy and Nami-san would probably have something to say about that. Zoro did still owe Nami-san money, after all.

Sanji wondered what the hell he was doing wrong. Wondered how it was possible to want and hate and admire and envy a person all at the same time without tearing yourself apart. Wondered if he was going quietly insane to accompany all the noisily crazy people on this ship. Wondered if feeling this shitty about being rejected meant that he was in love.

He hoped not. Last he’d heard, love wasn’t supposed to feel like this.

I love love love love love this too! ('too' => a continuation of my love of Poison)

"When the testing point had come, Zoro had held tight to his goal while Sanji had screamed that it was better to give up your dream than to die pursuing it.:

Reference to that scene, especially the way you did, just hit the right buttons for me; I absolutely love how you wrote it. Love the way dreams (which is imo, the key topic of OP alongside nakama-ship) was weaved into this (and Poison too btw).

Liked how it was written overall. Descriptions like "stubborn longnoses", "beautiful mikan-girls" and "bottomless-pit captains" amidst all the seriousness brought a smile to my lips. And liked the little things like Nami having something to say about Sanji killing Zoro because he "did still owe Nami-san money, after all". XD

Hmm, yes, I think you've gotten yourself a new stalker. Please beware.

I enjoyed this set. In each you get a distinct seperate feel for each man's tension. Zoro's is much less frustrating, I think. Much more control. (Duh.) And Sanji's is definitely more jumbled and angry. Brava. *claps*

Also, congrats on your 100th. *gives you cookies*

Wow! 100 fics. You go girl. I swear, I only watch One Piece for Zoro (and whenever Sanji, Ace and Smoker comes into the pic). I ;ike the conflict between these two boys. Such idiot men.

Sometimes Zoro would start to reach out, start to touch him, get so close that Sanji could taste it, taste that magnificent strength enveloping him… I loved this line. Just so... full of possibilities. Kinda sweet but sexy with just a hint of desperate 'do me now' to it.

Unf. So much love. Ah, Sanji; just jump the boy's bones already. He'll give up when those long legs wrap around him.

Seriously. So much love. *wriggles* ♥♥♥

Wow, one hundred fics? You are my hero! *clings*

I did quite enjoy both of these pieces (this one and the one before it). The boys are so good at denial that it's almost disgusting. Neither wants to initiate, and both want it. Sometimes I wanna strangle them both, lol.

I like how you wrote his POV, Sanji would be too much of a gentleman to take advantage of someone he wants. Spot on! I can feel his irritation radiating in waves. I'll definately check out any other fics you've wrote ^.^

^___^ Congrats~! And oooh, a delicious one to make 100 with too... the misconceptions, the tension... gorgeous. (And, Sanji POV, which is always teh winz in my book. *smirk*) It comes down to determination, eh? *grins*

And then, during their clashes, steel meeting shoe and bodies moving in a near-deadly dance, he’d noticed something. Guh. simple, yet so descriptive...

This is definitely one of my favorite interpretations of their relationship that I've ever read. You... just rock. I love the tense, unrequited, unspoke, desire and the distinction between Zoro's potential loss of power, and Sanji's deep digging envy of that power, though both can be interpretated as want. ... Just. guh. You make me a happy fan.

Now, dammit, start posting your stuff to the community nooooow. As a mod, I command it. More people need to experience your awesome fic, ALL pairings. *grins* DO IT.

The power of dreams and the power of nakama are some of the biggest reasons why I love One Piece so much. It's so wonderful to see these things in action and write about them.

I don't mind stalkers. I usually leave them cookies. ^_^

They're both reaching out and missing each other in the middle. Frustrating, I know.

Mmmm...hopefully there will be a next part, considering that Poison was originally supposed to be a one-shot. XD

I can hardly believe it myself. I refused to announce that I was getting close to it ahead of time for fear writer's block would descend immediately following my 99th fic. XD

I was rather fond of that line myself.

I don't know if writing a hundred fics qualifies me for hero-dom or loser-dom. ^.^;

I think Luffy's eventually going to lock them in the storeroom together naked. It'd solve a lot of problems. ^____^

Sanji really is a gentleman at heart. Using Zoro like that would piss him off more than being cockblocked, I think.

As for my fics, there's a lot of them (obviously). Good luck!

I loved Poison and I love this sequel so much, too (it makes me hope for a sequel to the sequel, because I'd like to see what's beyond that point of their interaction).

It's amazing how you manage to get right to the point with few words and bare their soul so simply. You made me feel Sanji's frustration and confusion oh so well...
The two pieces are a whole different approach of their pairing and it's a freaking interesting one (it's an understatement but I can't find my words, I'm sorry...;__;)!
Last line is just so beautiful, my favorite one...

It's a pity...I wanted to write a comment much sooner but all I managed to write still can't convey how much I liked it. (;__;) *sigh* It's quite frustrating not to be able to, really.

I don't think it's humanly possible NOT to lovee stories written by you. No-no-no ;)

I'm glad you like the icon I've drawn. ^_^ I think it would have looked a bit better if LJ allowed bigger files for user-pics though...*cries* They forced me to make drastic cuts in the amount of images needed. Oh well...^^
