I LIVE!

Extreme sleep deprivation: achieved.
Budget: blown.
Strawhat swag: acquired.
New con coat: tagged, signed, scribbled on, and pinned.
Crocodile: hugged.
Hentai: watched.
Bad anime: watched.
REALLY bad yaoi: watched. O_o
Pimp Zoro: blinged.

Wearing a "Sanji/Usopp fan" badge gets the most interesting reactions out of people. I got hugs, pictures, avowals that it was the most disgusting pairing on the planet, declarations that the pairing cannot possibly exist because Sanji likes girls, and the following query:

Guy who runs the "A Fan's View" website: "Out of all the fandoms to have slash in them, One Piece is the absolute last one I would have expected. Is there really that much of it?"

My reaction: XD

. . . AHAHAHAHA. Wow, even my friend Kara, who HATES One Piece slash, went, "...Was he fucking serious?" Even SHE knows how much of it there is. XD

Pfft. People are retarded. Sanji/Usopp is sweet artistic love. And seriously, NO pairing is plausible in OP cannon. *sporks st00pid fans* I love this fandom for it's non-existent (save for in certain forums and crap) pairing wars.

Oh ho! Crocodile hugs? :D Pimped out Zoros? Hentai and bad yaoi? *claps hands* Haha, sounds like quite the con~ x3

At the Yaoi pan. at Anime Boston there was very little to no One Piece slash/yaoi fans. I think there was one other and the rest of the audience weren't fans. I was a little taken aback because I found so much so easily when I first got into the fandom. Even when I order my doujinshi it's easier to find than I thought it would be. I really don't even have theories as to why people are so amazed that the fandom is around and popular. Oh well, I'm happy as long as there's quality stuff out there. hehe.

I did have a pretty good time, even with the usual con disasters and mischief and only getting about eight hours of sleep the whole weekend (some of it on the bathroom floor). I'm very much looking forward to Otakon, because then I'll be cosplaying with a group and that'll be awesome.

Woot indeed! I had a Sanji cosplayer glomp me for that badge.

I managed to keep myself down to a dignified snerk, but as soon as I got a few feet away I cracked up, along with Tiff and Metta-chan.

The poor guy was honestly clueless. He runs a cosplay/con report website, not a fan website, and he must take three or four THOUSAND pictures at large cons, resize them, organize them, and put them up on his website, so I actually felt a little bad for laughing at him.

But I did anyway. How do you manage to believe that an anime with men in it EXISTS without a yaoi fandom?

Oh, I forgot...Tiff was wearing her "Smoker/Ace fan" badge and showed it too him, and he said, "Now that's just weird." XD

Well, for every fifty tolerant, good-natured fans at a con, there must be one who believes in the nasty definition of OTP: all other pairings are either inferior and should not exist or disgusting and should not exist. Ug, fanbrats.

At least I don't have a Smoker/Zeff badge. That probably would have made her head explode. XD

The Crocodile cosplayer was awesome. He'd done a phenomenal job on his costume, right down to the hook, and he didn't mind fangirl glomps. ^_^

As for pimp Zoro...he will be scanned, or there will be hurting. XD

Well, weirdly enough, we're not that big of a fandom. We're prolific, yes, and fiercely loyal, but there aren't that many of us. Even [livejournal.com profile] onepieceyaoi only has 650-some members, out of millions of anime fans. Compared to Naruto or Inu Yasha, we're a drop in the bucket.

Part of it is that there are no casual One Piece fans. There are the people who watch the dub, and there are the folks like you and me who go online for the unedited series. Nothing inbetween. The closest we've got is people who only read the American manga, and that's a thin slice of the population indeed. Another part of it is that the art style turns a lot of yaoi fans off of the series. They like bishonen, and One Piece is almost absent of traditional bishonen.

So yes, you and I are special people. XD

Heeee, I love that badge. It gets so many fabulous reactions out of people, especially because it's an uncommon pairing. Being told that my beloved OTP was gross hurt my soul, but it got better quickly. ^_^

Seems like you got many things achieved while at the con. I wanna see Pimp Zoro! That guy has no idea what goes on behind the One Piece Fandom curtains XD.

ah, this helps me in my own confusion - I was at Anime North at the end of May, and not only was there barely any OP yaoi, there was next to 0, zip, zilch, naught, nada in the way of OP *anything*. It's like Canada is an even smaller small fraction of that fandom you described.

And the thing I love most about the OPYaoi is *just exactly* that it is lacking in "traditional" bishounen. I prefer Wolverine to Cyclops, any freakin' day!

and eee SmoAce badge. where can I get me some of that?

You always get a lot of stuff done at cons--they're insane. That's one reason why I love going to them so much. ^_^

As for Pimp Zoro...[livejournal.com profile] mettathron keeps balking at scanning his blingtastic awesomeness. I don't know why. T_T

Ha. Well, Otakon will have a fanfic panel part-run by a One Piece yaoi fan, so there WILL be fandom representation at the largest con on the East Coast, goddammit. XD

I know how that is--I had to go over the dealer's room at AnimeNext pretty closely before One Piece stuff started turning up, and it was all small things swimming in a sea of Bleach and Naruto. I was looking for One Piece PoP figures, and they had none--which sucked, because I'd spent two and a half hours waiting in line for the dealer's room to open. I was third in line. XD

I have higher hopes for Otakon, though I'm not looking forward to the pushing, shoving, fistfighting chaos that is the dealer's room on Friday.

You get a Smoker/Ace badge by sending love and money to Jess and Kim from Scuttlebutt Inc. We caught them at Katsucon, and there was MUCH badge-buying. ^_^

This comment is long overdue...

*raises Sanji/Usopp flag* My OTP as far as One Piece is concerned. I don't get why there's not more fans of it; it's so beautiful and artistic and just so there. And we all know Usopp has a thing for blondes X3
I so want your badge.

I'm rather sad actually. My girlfriend recently started rping and cosplaying Luffy because another friend of ours rps/cosplays Sanji, and we both love Sanji/Usopp but we don't rp it that much anymore so I find myself failing at Sanji/Usopp fanfics now.

Not that I don't mind Luffy/Usopp or anything. Her clueless Luffy is way too cute for me to complain ^-^

Er, gomen for the rant. When I start I don't stop until I realise I'm ranting. And my reaction to that guy's quote is also a X3
