Went to the VNV Nation concert in DC with [livejournal.com profile] genuinelie last night. Despite my paranoia, there were no ticket issues and we got there in time actually see the opening act--a concert first for me (FAIL). It was full of awesome, despite the drinks at the 9:30 Club apparently being made with the distilled urine of an alcoholic hobo instead of real liquor--it takes talent to make a rum and Coke taste like neither rum nor Coke. Props to [livejournal.com profile] genuinelie for actually drinking the whole damn thing. XD

I then proceeded to oversleep this morning. By about four hours. OH SNAPS. Slept right through two alarm clocks--unsurprising, considering a fight broke out during the last song of the evening that wound up shoving us right in front of the speakers, and we were up in the front and sans earplugs. OTL. The good news is that when I called work going "OH SHIT ON WAY LIKE NOW" the worst I got was someone laughing about how hard I'd been partying since my voice is completely shot.

[livejournal.com profile] fssshuuu, I am attempting JohnnYosaku crapck for youuuuuu. ♥

I'm so glad the tickets worked out for you! And a fight at a VNV Nation concert? Granted, we almost got our American asses handed to us at M'era Luna couple years back during VNV Nation thanks to some drunk Germans*, but I wouldn't expect that to happen in the US. Weird.

Did they play anything unusual? I assume the setlist will be heavy on the new stuff, but there's usually something a little older and unusual they throw in there each tour.

*Some quick thinking on my husband's part saved us all. When one of them started hassling him, he replied in Russian, "I'm sorry, I don't understand your German", and all of a sudden the guy threw his arms out and yelled "Welcome to Germany!" and left us alone. ^^;

From what I gathered, a very drunk man said something extremely rude to a girl, and about five of her friends took exception to it. As they were about ten feet from the stage, verbal discussion proved impossible, so said friends relied on body language, i.e. their fists. Ironically, this happened during "Beloved."

The setlist is indeed heavy on the new stuff, but it's got a lot of the old favorites--Honour, Standing, Beloved, Further, Epicentre, etc. Frankly, the most surprising song was the one they performed off the new album that I heard and went, "They'll never perform that shit live. It's not dancable enough." But to my surpise, they did indeed perform Descent. And an entertaining version of Carry You that involved a leprechaun, as a stuffed one was handed up on stage in the middle of the song. XD

I saw Dream Theater play the 9:30 back in 2000 or 2001 and the drinks weren't any better... glad to see some things never change.

Hope your voice recovers quickly, though!
