I have the strangest dreams sometimes. I can dream about something ordinary and commonplace (like walking up to a particular person at a bus stop and asking what time the bus comes), and then months later it actually happens, and I grump about never having prophetic dreams about important things.

Today, I dozed off while reading and wound up sleeping for about five hours. I had a dream.

I dreamt I was taking a shower (oooh, exciting). Then, suddenly, my shampoo bottles on the edge of the tub fell over. My reaction was "WTF?" and I got out of the shower, dried off, and walked into my bedroom. The massive, perilously-balanced stack of books that I keep on top of my bedside bookshelf had fallen over. I blinked at the mess of books, and then sudden the room shook with an odd kind of side-to-side motion. I sat down on my bed, and it happened again. I thought, Oh, I think it's an earthquake, and I wished that tarvosio was there, because he, unlike myself, has actually been through a serious earthquake.

Then my roommate, plotbunny_tiff, called out from the living room that there had been an earthquake and we had to leave. We got into Alucardblue's car (no Alucardblue, though, just his car) and drove off. We drove a long way, with earthquakes happening the entire time. The radio in the car said that there had been a massive fault shift, completely unexpected, and that it was affecting the weather. It started raining.

We eventually reached a house on a hill. It was a large house, but I don't remember what the outside of it looked like. We went down to the basement, which was very large and had many rooms and many, many windows, and found members of my pagan group there as well.

We sat down and talked about what had happened and how people had gotten here and listened to the emergency radio. All of the sudden, the radio staticked and went dead, and someone (not sure who) pointed at one of the windows. We looked out the window, and lo and behold, there was a tornado scarfing up the little town at the bottom of the hill whole. The tornado was soon joined by about twenty friends. We tried to find a room in the basement without windows, but there wasn't one. We wound up sitting as centrally as possible and watching the tornados whip around eating civilization, but leaving the trees on the mountains around the town whole.

About five or six of them joined together into one massive uber-tornado and started heading straight for us. Some of the people in the room started panicking, but I remember thinking, with absolute certainty, It won't hit us.

And then I woke up. The funny thing is that at no point during the entire dream was I frightened, scared, or even seriously worried.

I have no fucking clue what this means. Are pagans going to survive the apocalypse? Will I die in a tornado? Should I become a storm-chaser? Am I seriously demented? From all the interpretations I can find, a tornado in a dream means major emotional upheaval. That explanation doesn't feel right to me for some reason, probably mostly because I wasn't scared at all.

I've had two other dreams about tornados, one (had about a year ago) involving me viewing a tornado of flame from an upper floor of a weird sci-fi skyscraper that I'd spent most of the dream climbing, and the other (had back when I was in high school) involving me being six years old and my mother managing to get pizza delivered so we had something to eat while we hid in the basement of my old house and waited for the tornado to come. Again, during these dreams, I wasn't afraid at any point.

Maybe it's a sign. After all, the house where I spent my babyhood was pretty much destroyed by a tornado while my mother, my sister, and I were out visiting relatives. Apparently there was a large tree right across my bed, and all the windows in my sister's room had imploded, leaving foot-long glass shards sticking out of her crib. Nyu, cheating death at the age of three.

Death: Dammit!
