Quick Review: I cried. I don't cry at movies, but I cried at the end of this one.

Detailed Review: There were tears. Not for Dent's corruption and death, or for the rescue of the obligatory adorable tow-headed child. I wept for Batman's sacrifice. It was gloriously noble and selfless--my heart ached for him, settling himself up as a villain so that the spirit of the city might remain unbroken. And the scenes on the ferries brought me close to tears, because setting the inherent goodness in people against the incredible darkness of the Joker's madness and the insanity of the city made it shine all the brighter.

This movie also marks the first time I've been genuinely frightened by the Joker. I came close to being scared of him in the Emperor Joker graphic novel, but here, in this movie, he IS chaotic evil incarnate--no pattern, no purpose, no mercy, and no reasoning with. He's not funny. He's terrifying. And he loves it. Alfred's ancedote with the insane bandit ("How did you stop him?" "We burned the forest.") made me squirm a bit in my seat. Part of me wants to see Harley Quinn in the next movie. Part of me is scared of what she'll be--in her own way, she's always been just as cracked as her beloved Mister J.

Two-Face...man, I totally wanted to be focusing on his fall from grace, part of me just kept going "JESUS GOD THOSE ARE SOME GOOD SPECIAL EFFECTS." I'm a bit miffed that he snuffed it after one movie, but I can deal. His idealism in the first half of the movie was a beautiful thing--he was so freaking PURE. He was damn near a Batman fanboy--he loved what Batman stood for, what he meant to the city. The sacrifice of Batman's reputation to save his was so fitting--they changed roles, and those few who know the truth will never tell. GAH. ;_;

Christian Bale's "I R TEH BATMAN" voice made me lol, as per usual. Man's an exceptional Bruce Wayne, but as Batman he leaves a bit to be desired.

Most of the gadgets were made of pure win, but the cellphone sonar thing strained even my limits of credulity, and this is from someone who loves steampunk. Also, THOSE WERE SUM GUNZ ON THAT THAR MOTORCYCLE. I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE, NOLAN, AND BATMAN DOES NOT APPROVE. I'm trying to soothe myself by going "Well, maybe they were fleshette rounds or hypercompressed air or something not machinegunnish MAYBE PLZ?" but it's not working. OTL
