onepieceyaoi...tomorrow. Fuck all, I'm tired. People on my flist get first crack at it. *passes out*
Don’t kiss. Don’t touch. Don’t stare. Have to remember all of these things. She’ll be here soon.
No standing too close, close enough to breathe in the warm scent of your skin, close enough to accidentally-but-not brush against you and remind you that I’m here. No looking at you like I want to devour you whole anymore. No leaning over your shoulder to see what you’re drawing or designing or whatever. None of that. I told myself I wouldn’t miss it, so I won’t. I swear I won’t.
I knew this was coming. Knew that this was just a little fun between two friends, knew that your girl always had the last dance. It’s just…somehow it snuck up on me. I didn’t make the connection that when I found what was most precious to me, I’d lose you. Stupid of me—so happy about finding my dream that I forgot I’d have to wake up.
There she is. She’s blonde and slim and pretty and so in love with you I can feel it from over here. Nami-san’s comments on you having very narrow tastes suddenly make a lot of sense.
You told me that she’d been sick, but she doesn’t look it now. She’s almost glowing, and she didn’t have any trouble running up to you and jumping into your arms.
Don’t stare. Don’t want. Don’t get jealous. Let it go.
You’re going to ask her to marry you. I know. I was there when you found the ring, the one that was finally worthy of your Kaya. If she has any sense in her lovely head, she’ll say yes.
Give me five minutes. Five minutes and a cigarette, and I’ll be able to smile and wish you both the best. Ten minutes, and I’ll be able to flirt with her just so you get a chance to growl protectively. An hour and a stiff drink, and I’ll be able to tell her stories about you without mentioning what happened in the hammocks afterwards. A few days, and I’ll be able to talk about wedding cakes. A week, and I’ll be just fine.
But for these five minutes, it hurts like a kick to the gut and I can’t seem to get my lighter going. My hands aren’t shaking. They don’t shake. They never shake. The lighter’s probably broken, even though it was working fine earlier.
Nami-san’s fingers close over mine. A long time ago, I’d have died in ecstasy because my beautiful Nami-swan was touching me. Now, though, I know that Nami-san and Robin-chan are for each other, like you and your Kaya, and nothing I can do will break that. A gentleman doesn’t pursue a lady who genuinely does not appreciate his affections.
She lights my cigarette with the kind of effortless grace that all truly gorgeous women have and puts a hand on my shoulder. Nami-san has done many things for me, but right now I’m willing to nominate this as the kindest.
“Are you going to be okay, Sanji?”
“Of course.”
You wave at me, smiling, and I wave back. I didn’t lie to Nami-san. I’ll be okay…in five minutes.

Date: 2006-04-29 07:59 pm (UTC)Sanji's pretty good at denial. It's ungentlemanly to interfere in someone else's relationship, after all.
