I think we're creating a monster.
May. 6th, 2006 01:00 pmMore fic-exchangity goodness, on the subject of Zoro being scared out of his mind. I'm sorry it's so short and depressing.
Title: Aftermath
Series: One Piece.
One Piece: Not mine.
Rating: G.
Summary: Water 7, right after the fight over the Going Merry.
Zoro didn’t think he’d ever been more frightened in his life.
Luffy sobbed like a child into Zoro’s shoulder, the way he had been since they’d holed up in this hotel, left the Going Merry and its crew of one behind for the last time. All Zoro could do was hold him, hold his captain tight, and pray that the unbreakable man hadn’t been broken.
He couldn’t see Luffy’s face past the hat and he didn’t dare move it, but he thought that Luffy was finally winding down. He’d never seen Luffy cry before. Not like this. Not like his soul had been ripped out, rolled in salt, and crudely stuffed back in. Usopp was gone and Robin was missing. The Going Merry was shattered beyond repair and it felt like the closeness of their nakama was much the same.
Sanji had gone to go smoke, clear his head, he said. Chopper was a miserable ball of fluff in the other room, and last he’d seen Nami she’d been listlessly petting him and picking at a mikan from her now-potted trees. Giving their captain some alone time when that was the last thing he needed. The first mate’s job is to support the captain, though, so Zoro hadn’t left. And when the last of the energy that kept Luffy going and functioning for his crew had run out and he’d broken down, Zoro had been here and ready to catch him.
Zoro was perilously close to hating Usopp and Robin both. But hating them wasn’t what the man clinging to him wanted, so all he could do was stroke Luffy’s back and be the immovable object that was the only thing that could bolster an irresistible force.

Date: 2006-05-07 04:56 am (UTC)One of the many reasons why Water 7 is one of my favourite arc's, no group of people can always be that happy, it makes them human, and makes the rest of us sob like babies.
This is such a nice emotive little piece.

"be the immovable object that was the only thing that could bolster an irresistible force"
Niiice. That's an apt turn of phrase for them. Very nice.
Luffy vs Usopp broke me. I can't wait to see how Oda turns it around. I just know it's going to be hilarious, beautiful, and sad. I hopeihope. *cheers for Sogeking*
