Ups and downs.
Apr. 8th, 2006 03:20 amWell, today was kind of a mixed day.
In bad news, Yuki finally gave up the ghost sometime early this morning. It's not like we weren't expecting it and she outlasted the vet's estimate by seven months (which is damn impressive for a rat), but still. I wish I'd petted her a bit more before going to bed, but I was tired and she seemed as all right as she ever got. We're trying to find somewhere to either bury or cremate her, but it's hard when you live in an apartment. Hyatt nearly gave me an oh-no-not-two-in-one-day panic attack immediately after we found Yuki by being, well, Hyatt. Damn, I hate it when that fish sleeps floating upside down.
In good news, we made a final decision on where we're moving to, though moving right before Otakon will Not Be Fun. I also got to indulge in two of my secret guilty pleasures today (bad hentai and low-budget Japanese horror flicks) thanks to our local Suncoast being in its last ten days of being open. I'm going to miss that store--I spent an enormous chunk of freshman and sophomore years there, and nearly all of my friends have worked there at one time or another. The hentai was actually pirate hentai, much to the lulz of both
plotbunny_tiff and myself--
plotbunny_tiff and
desyhand had been traumatized by it at a con and insisted that I share the pain. The Japanese horror movie was OMGWTFBBQ-tastic, as I expected it to be.
Hey, new icon. About now, I could really use some of that, but I can't touch a drop of that booze on pain of Death by Short Angry Italian Man. Alcoholic colorbar!
I got a fortune cookie today that said, "A thrilling time is in your immediate future." I hope so.

Date: 2006-04-08 11:39 am (UTC)YAY!!! I'm sure that apartment is happy that you chose him out of the 300 or 200 there are around there. I thought it was only here that Suncoast was being exterminated. A few years ago, almost all the Suncoasts that were by us just shut down. I was really sad cause they had ALOT of anime stuff. Wow...I don't even wanna know how you can make a hentai using a pirate theme. I've never seen a japanese horror movie (though I don't watch any horror movie except Saw...and that's not really horror).
Alcohol is saying "Come on. I know you wanna drink me." It's taunting you. Maybe the fortune cookie is talking about your move. (so sorry for the long comment ^.^''')

Date: 2006-04-08 07:42 pm (UTC)Suncoast actually went bankrupt earlier this year. After that, their parent company (Musicland, also owns Sam Goody) got bought out by the company that owns FYE. A shitload of Suncoast stores are closing as a result.
Japanese horror movies are fun. Ringu and Ju-On are the famous ones, though I'm a fan of the Tomie series too. The one I watched last night was called "Living Hell" and features some creative camerawork to make up for the low budget, the bad gore, and the sheer WTFery of the plot.
Alcohol says that to me a lot. The bad part is that I got my best drinkin' days out of the way before I turned twenty-one. Now when I drink, I don't get drunk. I get tired. I'm an old lady. XD

Date: 2006-04-08 12:29 pm (UTC)Ahh Blood Royal. "Let's go see a Henti," we said. "It'd be fun," we thought. Yeah...like I said, I didn't really watch it past the laxatives part...Well, have fun!

Date: 2006-04-08 07:47 pm (UTC)The bad part is that the second episode (the one you guys left before seeing) isn't that bad. This hentai actually had a really happy ending.

Date: 2006-04-08 08:45 pm (UTC)As an aside, have you every had to deal with bumblefoot? Kemuri's won't go away and I've had him on Baytril 3 times to try adn get rid of it. He's pretty chunky (and that doesn't help) but I don't know what else to try.

Date: 2006-04-08 09:03 pm (UTC)Bumblefoot? Nope. We've got a cage with solid floor and ramps (and a pain it was to find, too!) and our rats never got too horribly pudgy, so neither Yuki or Anzu had any problems with it. About the only think I can think of is laying cardboard on the flooring and ramps if you've got wire ones--it's what my ex-boyfriend did for his rats when they were in a wire cage. The only problem is that ratties + cardboard = no more cardboard in short order, so you have to keep replacing it.

Date: 2006-04-08 10:47 pm (UTC)Can you get a cagemate for Anzu or is she really antisocial? She doesn't want to try and be more social now that she's the only lady in the house? Poor baby *pets*.

Date: 2006-04-08 11:02 pm (UTC)The reason why Anzu's in a cage by herself is that she tried her level best to kill Yuki as soon as she got too sick to fight back. Anzu used to whomp her every time she tried to eat--Yuki lost a lot of the feeling in her front paws and so became a very slow eater, and Anzu would beat her up and steal whatever she'd been working on eating, even if she wasn't hungry. This included us hand-feeding pieces of fruit that were easy for Yuki to pick up--the second we turned our backs, Anzu would snatch them and horde them in a corner of the cage. We had to separate the two of them so that Yuki wouldn't starve. I fear to inflict her on a younger rat.
I can try coaxing her to be more friendly with treats, but she doesn't like leaving her cage at all and never has. Maybe we can work on it. -.-

Date: 2006-04-09 12:41 am (UTC)I've heard of blu-kote as well but can't get my damn hands on the stuff. I'd need to order it online (credit is maxed). He's got a pretty icky one going on on the one foot (he has it on both back feet).
