Dear LJ:

Your Navigation Strip is ugly and annoying. Please do not turn it on without my permission. Please do not turn it on without other people's permission. Please do not put the commands for making it GO THE FUCK AWAY it in a new, even more obscure section of the labyrinthine near-unnavigable clusterfuck that is the redesigned LJ Settings section. I do not need to be told that I'm looking at a friend's LJ as if I don't already know the people on my flist. I do not need to be told when I'm looking at my own journal, as my IQ is higher than the freezing point of water. I. DO. NOT. WANT. IT. And if I see your Navigation Strip on the street, it is on.

Love and Smoochies,
[livejournal.com profile] chibi_trillian

In my experience, when a website pitches an unnecessary option this hard, it's usually because they're planning on putting advertising on it.

ETA: OH SHIT. It's defaulted to "on" on all communities too. ARG. *headdesk*

IT'S NOT JUST ME, YAY!

Seriously, that thing is ugly as fuck. I saw a couple journals I was browsing using it and only thought "what in the hell is that?" in the same tone I use for descirbing heinous lawn ornaments.

It's stupid and dumb. It looks like a fucking lj-advertisement on everyone's PERSONAL journal. I finally got it off and I feel the relief of someone who's just cured a crabs infection.

I could not have said it better myself. Really, I want to know whose brainchild this was. Whoever they are, they're pretty highly placed for LJ to keep shoving such a shitty feature down our collective throats.

I like how that brainchild decided to make it "ugly variated dark gray" and "ugly variated light gray". Creative genious!

By default, isn't it "on"? If they're gonna add that feature, at least make the default "off"...at which point no one would probably know that it even exists, not that that would be a bad thing or anything. As a paying customer, I'd like some reform here too!

Seriously. Having an unattractive, unpopular, and mostly useless feature defaulted to "on" on all LJs is bullshit. Don't fuck with my settings, plzkthx. Rawr.

It is very ugly. I'm trying to figure out how to turn it off, but I can't quite figure it out. I'm only seeing it on certain journals, though, and not mine, so I'm trying to figure out if that means it's off on mine but not the others...?

There's a setting where you can force it to be displayed when other people look at your journal. The default for that is "on," much to my dismay. So it's not your fault. It just means that other people haven't turned the strip off.

I wonder if LJ will take user petitions to get rid of the damn thing.

I'd sign in an instant. It's a ridiculous piece of html. Seriously. Who thought that up?

*writing smo/ace finally* XD

Some executive, probably. I shudder to think that an actual web designer may have had a hand in coming up with this.

I've just taken it off from oyp100 after seeing this post, lol. I'm neutral to it. Kinda annoying but I got used to it after a while.

Oh god, it's horrible isn't it? I could have sworn I switched it off too, but it's still showing up on my own LJ.

You probably did. They just defaulted it on for everybody tonight in an apparent attempt to make it more popular. From what I've seen on LJ, it had the opposite effect. Way to go, LJ Staff!

And somewhere in the big, wide, beautiful blue ocean, a shark widens its eyes in surprise as LJ management flies by in an astounding leap over its head...

Go forth, little sharky. As the official Jumping-the-Shark Shark, you get a tithe of limbs from your, er, petitioners. Go! Go! Enjoy yourself! Eat their hands, so they can't produce any more code!

*ignore last comment made ^.^'''* Oh, that little tool-bar. I never noticed it until now ^.^''' But yeah, I can see how that would be annoying. Your love and smoochies to the LJ must be like razor-blade kisses.

They're love and smoochies of evil sarcasm. I didn't mind the Navigation Strip much when it was just random ugly thingie Q, but when they put it on my LJ without my permission, I got seriously pissed. Rawr.

Well, at least it has an option to turn it off...wait...OH DEAR GOD! DX I just messed with the thing a few seconds ago and now I can't find the options of it. They need some razor blade sharpened sarcasm sent their way.

Fortunately, I hadn't logged on when they turned it on the first time (when was that?), so I only had to turn it off once. But I can certainly see how having to do that more than once would be hella annoying.

What the hell were they thinking when they introduced that...thing?
